ARRIVAL OF VOLUNTEERS AT OPUNAKE.

Opunake, November 3, 9.50 a.m.—The Hincmoa, with Wellington and Wairarapa Volunteers, arrived at 5 o'clock on Thursday morning, after a very rough passage. Nearly all the men have disembarked. The Wanganui and Manawatu Volunteers, who have been garrisoned here, go on to , Rahotu after breakfast this morning. The Auckland men went on to the same camp yesterday ; and the Wellington Navals ! the day previous. The men landed this morning, and proceeded to Rahotu this afternoon.—[Received 9.5 p.m.] ' November 3, 7.5 p.m.—The Wellington and Wairarapa contingent, fully equipped, proceeded to Rahotu on foot at one o'clock this afternoon. Only a few natives are left here, and they arc making preparations to go to Parihaka to-morrow. STRENGTH OP FORCE. The total Armed Constabulary in the district is stated to he 868, distributed as follows: —At Rahotu, 224 ; at Pungarehu, 540 ; at Opunake. 60 ; at Manaia, 40 ; at Okato, 12 ; at Cape Egmont, 12. The volunteer strength is 1049, distributed as follows :—At Rahotu—Wellington Naval Brigade, 111 ; Wanganui contingent, 162 ; Thames contingent, 171; Wellington and Wairarapa contingent, 189 ; Nelson contingent, 205 ; Canterbury contingent, 78. At Manaia—Wanganui Cavalry, 55. At Pungarehu—New Plymouth Cavalry, 33. A telegram was received here from Colonel Roberts this morning saying they had sum", cient medical men in the field, and that the services of Drs. Diver and Walls, who arrived this morning, would not be required. The latter gentlemen have gone on with them, but of course are unattached. The Wellington men were very indignant on receipt of the message. |
