[PER UNITED PKESS ASSOCIATION.] GONE TO FETCH NEW GOVERNOR. Auckland, October 14. It is reported that H.M.S. Danae will return with Governor Gordon direct from Fiji. Sailed : Arawata, for the South. LAND AT PATETERE. The negotiations at Patetere between the Government and the private purchasers have concluded. The terms are that the latter deposit £11,000 as security for the Government advance, upon which the pre-emptive right of proclamation will be withdrawn. The Association will then pass the land through the Court, and secure tho title being- made good. Government will probably select 20,000 acres in lieu of t-he £11,000, and return the deposit. It is also believed that the Association will bo bound to put up blocks of land for sale in reasonable sizes, and offer twenty-five per cent, of the> best land on deferred payments by auction. MORE NATIVE LAND. Tho survey of 100,000 acres, for which Messrs. Dilworth and Howard have been negotiating, is proceeding. RISE IN FLOUR. A private cable reports that Adelaide flour has risen to £10 10s. JOE, THE MURDERER. Joe, the murderer, has lost his appetite, and become timid and reserved. TE NGAKAU BANISHED. Te Ngalcuu, formerly the principal adviser of the Maori King, has been banished toKawhia. MORE LAND SPECULATIONS. Mr. 11. Graham is negotiating for 30,000 acres of the Lake country. McLean & Co. have occupied the extensive Horutuhi block, which has been unoccupied for many years through Maori obstruction. NEWS FROM SANTA CRUZ. News from Norfolk Island states that Bishop Selwyn was kindly received by the natives of Santa Cruz four miles from where Coramodoro Goodonough was murdered. The Rev. Wadrigan has left as a missionary. CAPTAIN JOHNSON DISMISSED. Wellington, October 14. Tho Marine Department is to bo amalgamated with tho Customs, and Captain Johnson (19 years' service), and head of the former, receives compensation for loss of office.
