EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.
A smart shock of earthquake occurred on Saturday night at 7.3, followed by two successive slight shocks at 7.8. The direction was N.W. to S.B. No damage was done. MANSFORD GETS LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Wellington, October 11. Mr. Mansford, R.M., is Buffering from a severe attack of bronchitis. His medical advisers recommend a change of climate ; and in pursuance of this recommendation, application is^to be made to get him twelve months' leave of absence. If successful, Mr. Mansford proposes to take a trip to England. Wellington, October 12. Mr. Mansford, R.M., has received twelv« months leave of absence, and visits England. It is understood that he will draw full pay.
