Sik, — The absurd display of " bumptiousness" which characterises the "twaddling nonsense" written to the Xcivs this morning by " W," would be beneath my notice if it were not that such bosh has, too ofton I (ear, more influence ovor the minds of even sensible people than Bound common sense. " W's" plan not only would not work, but would be exceedingly nnfair. In my id pin ion it is the duty of our public bodies to spend the rate*, as nearly as possible, where they are collected, and,

although this is not always necessary, yet, in this particular street, the rate, payers of which have beon " subscrib. ing to the fands of the Borough" for ever so many years with little or no benofit to themselves, it is a crying shame that this has not been done. " W'b" low-bred sneer about my writing " of things I know nothing about" is so contomptible that I will make no remarks about it.
