«. Mr. Bamford, who has come to relieve Mr. A. S. Douglas, arrived yesterday. Mr. O'Rorke, M. H. R., and a party who arrived by the Wellington yesterday morning, paid a visit to Waitara, and left by steamer for Auckland in the afternoon. In consequence of the Freemasons' Hall being otherwise engaged, there will be no meeting of the Temperance Crusaders this evening. The Gymnasium is now open for the winter season, and we have no doubt this " powerful" institution will be a source of attraction to our young men. Referring yesterday to the order given by Maoris on Friday last, for Mr. Driscoll to move off with his party of surveyors, we could only state that it was rumoured that the order had been carried. "VVe have since learned that the surveyors were surveying on land of which Honi Pihama was the chief owner, and that he would not consent to the surveyors being turned off. They may therefore be still at work. A reception meeting of the Primitive Methodist Church congregation was held in the chapel last eveniug to accord a welcome to the Rev. Mr. Sharpe, successor to the Rev. Mr. Standrin. About a hundred sat down to tea, there being amongst those preseut the Rev»- Mr. M'Nicol, the Rev. Mr. Hudson, and Messrs. Bassett, Beale, and Lowe. Addresses were delivered suitable to the occasion and on Church matters generally, and at intervals pleasing music was rendered by the choir. Votes of thanks were accorded to MrMofflin, who Ml the "c'hoirj and Mrs. Momim who presided at the pianoforte.
