CANTERBURY RACES. Thcrsdat, November 7- — The Metropolitan Baoo meeting opened with glorionß weather. Then was a good attendance.

Friday, November B.— The race* to-day wef» very largely attended, and the weather was fine. Hurdle Race.— so soys. j 2 miles j 8 hurdles. Won by R. Franc's Medora- Horam's Bis* marck ran, but Medora ran right away from the former, and won by a quarter of a mile ; but Macky, who rode Medora, was found to be three pounds short weight i he said that be had dropped some lead. The Jockey Club, having considered the matter, deoided the race nnll and void, and also that Macky be disqualified from riding agaiu wherever the Onristonorch Jockey Club Rules were in force. This gave great publio satisfaction. Derby Stakes.— lso soys. ; distance, 1§ milei.

Peeress DtsQUALmcD.— The day before the races, Mr. Redwood sold Peeress to Mr. Walters, who scratched her for the Canterbury Cup, which she had been very heavily baoked for by the publio. A speoial meeting of <he Canterbury Jookey Club was held on the 6th instant, when the following resolution was carried unanimously :— " After hearing the ciroamstances connected with the sale by Mr. Redwood to Mr. Walters of the chesnut mare Peeress yesterday, within forty eight hours of the time of starting for the Canterbury Cup, and the scratching of the said mare for the said Cap by Mr. Walters, the Canterbury Jookey Clnb unanimously agree that the mare should be disqualified from ever again running on any oonrse where tbe Canterbury Jookey Club rules are in force, and she is accordingly hereby deolared disqualified." Mr. Walters'e Yatterina is now the first favourite for the oup. There has been great excitement here npon tho matter. The Jockey Club was thanked by memorial for disqualifying Peeress. Greyhouth Races.— The races will take place on the 17th and 18th Maroh. The handicaps are published. Jookey Club Handicap, 175 sovereigns, with seven sovereigns sweepßtakes added. The Gold-fields Handicap is 125 sovereigns; Hurdle Handicap, 75 sovereign!.
