DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
The competition for the General Government prizes should have taken place on Monday last,, but owing lo the wind being extremely high, it was postponed till yesterday , when the firing came off at the usual practice ground. According to. the regulations each district has prizes for thethree highest scores over forty points, the first being £10, (or a carbine of that value), and tho other two £7 and £5 respectively. The distances were 400, 500,. and 600 yards. Theweather yesterday was anything but good, a stiff breeze from the west blowing the greater part of the day. The highest scores at all ranges were made by Mr. T. Humphries, who. succeeded in gettiDg. forty-seven points ; and Mr. Charles Stapp forty-two. The rest of the competitors did not reach the stipulated numberof points which would entitle them to a prize. The Armed Constabulary fire on Friday next, when it will be decided who are the winners of the prizes. The following is the score of thosewho made over fifteen points :—: —
