TAURANGA.

TROOPS FIRED UPON. Monday, 10 30, «. m. The colonial gunboat ' Sandfly ' has returned f'om Tauranga, and through the conrtesy of Captain Marks we have been furnished with the following intelligence:—e :— On Saturday last, the Tauranga natives, to the number of about 400, assembled, and filed several volleys at our troops, fortunately without any serioua result. Lieut. Greer, who is in command of the Artillery, immediately placed a 12 pouuder in position, and fired among them, when the natives flew to the head of the Wairo*. One of the bullets fired by the natives passed very close to one of Mr. Buckland's men. The natives have thrown up several rifle-pits and earthworks. A report was current that the natives who had been armed by the Government, aud sent into the interior, had not returned, and were supposed to have gone over to the rebels. — Cross, April 7. ATTACK ON PUKERIMU. An attack was made by natives on this place (Pukerimu) yesterday (Saturday), during the absence of the Geueral. The rebels were evidently labouring under the impression that all the troops had been taken to ' Orakau. They were driven away without any casualty on our side.— lbid.

Our readers will be glad to hear that the hon. T. B. Gillies, Postmaster General, arrived yesterday by the Rangatira. He comes fully prepared, we believe, to deal with the various vexed questions here that have long required solution.
