Lighting the Town with Gas. — A rather numerously attended meeting was held at the Masonic Hotel, on Wednesday afternoon, for the purpose of considering the expediency of forming a company to light the town with gas. — Examiner, Gold. — The arrival of 216 ounces of gold in the Supply from Collingwood, as announced in the Shipping Intelligence, will no doubt be regarded with interest; in addition to this, a considerable quantity came over in the steamer on Sunday. The news from the diggings is still encouraging ; and it is now almost beyond doubt that ap additional population only is required to make these gold-fields rank amongst the richest in the world. — Ibid Feb. 16.

Arrival of the steamship Prince Allied. On Monday last the Prince Alfred arrived from Sydney via Nelson. She made an excellent run of 5£ days to Nelson, and brings the December mail, which had arrived punctually by the Emeu. We have received our files of the Sydney Morning Herald to the 12th inst., and the Home News of the 17th December, from which we have made the following extracts :—: —
