WELLINGTON.
The Government Gazette of the 16th nit. gives the following statement of the Colonial Bank of Issue at Wellington on tbe sth day of February, 1853 .— Amount of Notes in Circulation on the sth dsy of February, 1853, bolng the close of the preceding four weeks, viz. i £5 and upwards .. .. .£5,360 Under £5 10,973 £16,333 Total amount of coin held by tbe same offico on Ibo same day : Gold 6472 Silver 1861 8333 s Tho sum of £8000 sterling has been invested, under the warrant of his Excellency the Governor in Chief, in the public funds in England through tho Commissariat department, by arrangements made through tbe Lords Commissioners of her Majesty's Treasury. (Signed) Hbnuy W. Pktre. " A few days ago four Msoriei were brought up beforo Mr. St. Hfll for rubbing the premises of Mr. Hiokson of fowls and other goods. The evidence not having been sufficient to convict them, they were remanded for tho production of further evidence until yesterday, when they were again brought up. It appeared that one of them was, at the time of the robbery, living ns servant in Mr. Hickson's family, and tho robbery having benn concocted among them, ha undertook to admit them (into that part of the premises vvhero it was to be effeoted. Tho charge was clearly proved against them, and they were sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour."
