POLICE COURT.— Yesterday. Befor’ JACKSON KRDUKLL, R.M. Drunkenness. —Diary Robinson and John liussuli, alias Rosser, were charged with being drunk the previous day. They both pleaded guilty, and were lined 20s and costs, or 48 hours’ imprisonment in case of non-payment. Obstructing the Footpath. Weka Toheriri was charged with obstructing the footpath in A Inert-street, Grahamstown, on the 251 h April, by allowing his horse to remain across it.—Dir J. C. Young acted as interpreter. The defendant pleaded guilty, hut said he went into a shop to buy some matches, leaving his horse outside, he was only absent a few minutes.—The R.DI. told defendant, through the interpreter, that the penalty in this case might l>e as high as £lO, but: under the circumstances and as this was a first offence, the nominal fine of 2s 0d and costs would lie imposed. The Magistrate observed that, for the safety and comfort of foot passengers in crowded townships, it was necessary to enforce the law. Provoking Language. —Dlicl i acl Conroy was charged with using provoking and insulting language towards William E. Samuels on the 3rd inst. calculated to provoke a breach of the peace.—When the case was called on the complainant did not appear, and the defendant was discharged.
