Season’s Greetings His Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Lord Bledisloe), with Lady Bledisloe, passed through Temuka by Tuesday evening’s express. At the Temuka station their Excellencies were met by the Mayor (Mr A. W. Buzan), who extended the season’s greetings, on benalf of the Temuka Borough. Lord Bledisloe reciprocated the good wishes expressed, and hoped Temuka people would enjoy the holiday season. Local School Display The display of work done by the pupils of the secondary department of the Geraldine District High School was held yesterday afternoon when a large number of parents spent an interesting afternoon. The school grounds, which are now very tidy and trim, aroused favourable comment, and the present state of the grounds reflected great credit on the improvements and are very enthusiastic. The girls have also done much useful work in connection with the flower beds. Homo ami Garden Competition The home and garden competition inaugurated by the Orarl Horticultural Society was advanced last week, when the two judges, Mesdames G. A. M. Macdonald (Orari) and P. Barker (Gapes Valley), made the second judicial visit around all gardens entered. They stated that in most gardens they saw a distinct improvement, and added that the weather had been most favourable this season for flower and vegetable gardens. Eleven gardens were visited during the inspection. Music Examination Results Dr. Vaughan Thomas, examiner for the Trinity College of Music, London, conducted the annual examination at St. ' Joseph’s Convent on Tuesday last. The results were as follow:—Licentiate (Practical), Miss Atley 77; Associate (Practical), Paul Woodhead 77, Patricia Taehen 75; Junior, May Kyne Si (honours). Theory; Intermediate, Paul Woodhead 94 (honours); preparatory, May Kyne 69. Paul Woodhead has just entered on her twelfth year, and passed her diploma (practical) with credit. Local Swimmers’ Successes Temuka and Geraldine swimmers brought home a fair share of prizes from the Y.M.C.A. swimming carnival held in Timarn on Thursday evening. In the final of the women’s 5 0 yards handicap. Miss L. Shi els secured first place. The dual relay race final saw J. Opie and M. Forrester first, and B. Luey and Miss Shiels second. The 20 0 yards inter-club relay handicap final was won by tire Geraldine team C. V ilson. P. Me Sir ane, J. Webb and-D. Lewis.
