PERSONAL AND SOCIAL NEWS AND NOTES ROUND ABOUT THE DISTRICT Advice has been received that Miss Girnn, of Tinwaid, has been appointed Infant mistress at the Orari School, in lieu of Miss C. G. McQueen. Miss Gunn for the past eight years has been infant mis tress at AVillowby School. Birthday Party Last Thursday, a. very enjoyable children’s party, given by Airs A. Washington for her little niece, Fay Bell, was held at Mr and. Airs C. Bell’s residence, King street. The table looked very attractive, decorated with sweet peas and streamers. The .birthday cake carried six candles, and each child Avore a coloured jazz hat, making a very festive scene. After the party, Air and Airs Bell entertained the children, games and singing being indulged in, folloAved by a .SAveet scramble. Fay received many pretty presents, and a very happy time Avas spent by all. Those present included Air and Airs Bell and Fay Bell, Airs A. Washington, Airs Hammond, Alisses Hylda Cain, Betty Reid. Joyce, Joan, Nella. and Alva Hammond, Nana and Alargaret de Joux, Betty Alar-tin, and Messrs T. Stack, A. Hammond, Wallace Hopkkinson and Earl Smith.

The Misses Joyce, Pat and Joan Swap leave to-day for Otautau, to spend the school vacation. Social and Dance A very enjoyable social and dance was held in tlie Oddfellows’ Hall last evening - . Card winners proved to be Airs Fletcher and Mr H. V. O'Connor. .Miss C. Cain and Mr W. Galbraith won a “Monte Carlo” waltz. Music was supplied by Mr R. Hoare. and Mr R. Thomas was master of ceremonies. Kitchen Gift Party .Mrs R. Richards and Miss X. AleBride were joint hostesses at a kitchen gift party to Aliss Alary Austin, who is to be married early in the New Year, in the Parish Hall on Thursday evening. The evening was spent in singing and dancing. Items were given, by Airs R. Richards, Aliss Alcßride, and Air A. Leslie. Alany. valuable presents were received by Aliss Austin. Air R.
