BATHING PLACE.
AT HOLLAND STREET. FENCE TO BE REMOVED. When the Works Committee's report came before the Temuka Bor,oug,h Council at : the last meeting, Cr Evans' referred to the recommendation that the fence in front ••of that part of Holland street, which" until recently had been leased to,Mr C. Hancox, 'be pulled down. He said that Mr Hancox would.have to fence his property to keep his stock in, and that would prevent the bathers from going down to, the: stream. - Cr. Evans said he thought it would be a great pity to deprive ratepayers in that locality of the facilities for bathing, a«d there were 100 or 150 who bathed' there. The Overseer said that Mr Hancox's line of fence would not block' bathers. There was ample room 'beyond that, and it would be very little detriment to the bathers. A couple of posts could be, put in to allow the bathers in. The Mayor said that if the culvert were put down it would, allow •motor cars to go in. Cr. Evans: If; it was too much for the to fenco off perhaps they could put a gate. . Cr, Sinclair thought the Overeer's idea a good one, to put two posts in it. Cr Evans: I would like to have a. look at it, and I would like the Council to have a look at it. The Mayor said it was one of the fi*est bathing places ' around here-, and the discussion lapsed, the report being adopted. ....
