COMPETITION GAMES

The opening games in the Geraldine County sub-Association competitions, took place on Thursday. TEMUKA A. 4 v. GERALDINE A: 3. Teniuka. A. met Geraldine A. at the Domain oval, Temuka, and after a fast? open game defeated the visitors "by the margin of one goal. The teams taking the field were:— Temuka A.—K. Blyth, J. Ward, G. Lawry, E. Lawry, P. Histen, G. Sin/es, G. Moulton, H. Washington, W.' Searle, I. Schrader and A. Blackmore. Geraldine A.—Fleming, Duncan, Bryant, Sherratt, Weaver, E. Broad, Borrell, G. Smith, Bowkett, Henry, and D. Turner. Messrs F. .Smith .and/. G. Dockerill refereed the match in a capable manner. The match was a good opening game for the season, and as neither side had hardly had. a game before i they- were well pleased with the standard 6f play attained. The teams were well matched (/ and, is -a veteran Geraldine player said, the Temuka, team really deserved their win, and for a young team showed great promise. In. the' first half G. Lawry. scared the opening goal. He took the ball from half-way, beating his opposing *.backs and goal keeper, and with a " smart backhand stroke netted a goal. Geraldine missed several chances to score through overeagerness, players getting offside., Lawry added another goal and P. Histen - also scorch, while Bryant opened the account for Geraldine, leaving the score at half-time: Te- . muka 3; Geraldine 1. '" ' In tire second spell Geraldine 4|showed better combination, and had *"the test'of the play, Bryant and L. Dunjcan scoring a goal, each towards the end of the spell. Temuka led by G. Lawry succeeding in netting once more,, leaving the score:— Temuka .. .. 4 Geraldine ..' .. &' LADIES' TEAMS. TEMUKA A. v. ORARI. The Temuka A. ladies' team jouriffneyed to Orarl for their match against - that .club. The home players were . much 100 good for the visitors in the first epell, and piled on 6 goals to 0 in their favour. In the second half, Temuka improved their play considerably, and held x their opponents, who added two goals to their score, while Mrs • Fisher scored for Temuka. The result was:— Orarl .. .. 8 Temuka A. 1 TEMUKA B; v, : .GERALDINE B. These teams ..played at the Temuka Domain, thfugame being reffereed by Mesers E. ■ Smith and G. DockerilL For beginners the players played exceptionally well, and showed .great promise of developing into* first-class teams. In the first spell the play was. all in the visitors' favour, Miss Turley making several .fruitless shots at. goal, but was successful in netting on two occasions. * Miss M. Hannifin scored for Temuka, and - the score at half-time was: Geraldine B. ,2, Temuka B. 1. In the second half the Temuka "players got a beliter grasp of the game, and showing better- combination, held their opponents.
