GERALDINE HIGH SCHOOL

ASSOCIATION FORMED.

On Wednesday last the ex-pupils of the secondary department of the above school held a meeting to draw •up constitutional laws of association. Two years ago, under the organisation of Miss D. C. Fannie, a •small club of 2 8 members was formed from the ex-pupils. Social evenings were held monthly during the winter, and games and dancing indulged in. Last year the membership increased to 74, and this year 110 members are on the roll, and it was decided that the social club should be formed into an association. In, its second year, Miss Farnie started a debating club in connection with the association, and interesting debates took place from time to time; also she 'gave several interesting talks on various subjects, and later on helped to add a Thespian department to the organisation. The benefit of this was well exemplified in ’ the well-acted play, “The Voice of the People,” which •was produced at the late school concert. It is now Mass Fannie's intention to form a pf.ay reading class, with the ultimate aim of producing other plays in the near •future. There is also a musical side organised to teach members part singing and music generally, so that members may -he enabled to provide the orchestral accompaniment at their own socials, and also it is to be hoped, at public, entertainments as well. Miss Farnie w r as asked to take the chair, and the election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A. M. Fyfe (chairman of the School Committee) : president. Miss D. Farnie; vice-presidents, Misses A. 'M. Hughes, W. Farnie, and Messrs 'T. Hughes, F. Piper, E. Speechly an d Dr. Hlslop. To these were ad>ded Messrs E. J. Riches and L. J. Ft Te, two expupils who had helped fto draw up the rules and design ’the badges. Joint hen. secretaries, MMss I. Henry •and H.. W. Williamson ;| committee, Misses Gallanan, Elliot, JNaylor, and Messrs E. Scott, W. Wjebb and A. •Scott. GENERAL.., It was decided to bold drama evenings three times a, .month, and jto hold debates occa slcmally, and a glee club will also hold sessions. A Christmas party wil J be held between December 1G find 24, when the ex-pupils expect t;o enjoy some old-fashioned Yule-ticLe festivities. Before the coucliiisn >n of -the meeting, a motion was ta hied that Miss U. Farnie, in recognition of her services to the club, be made a life member. Needlesss to say, the motion was carried unanimously.
