TEMXTKA CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the above Club was held in the Fire Brigade Hall last evening, there being pre-sent-—Messrs C. Austin (president), B. Twomey, S. Radford, J. Henry, C. B. Bottrell, P. Sidow, W. Ives, Geo. Lee, R. Lee, J. Deßenzy, W. Younger, Dr. Scannell, and R. H. Taylor. Owing to Mr J. Beri being unable to attend the meeting, Mr Taylor was appointed secretary pro. tern. ANNUAL REPORT. Your Committee are pleased to be able to report a very successful season. After a break of some years a team was again entered in the competitions, playing in the -junior grade. Your representatives acquitted themselves well, attaining to the position of joint runners-up, with the following record of matches play-ed:-—Won 10, Lost 2, and forfeited 1. During the season two friendly games were arranged with the Geraldtae Club, both of which wer© won by our opponents. A game was also with the men of H.M.S. ; Veronica, and after an exciting finish : ended in a draw. We hope that in the coming geason more friendly games will be arranged for Thursdays, and that a special sub-com-mittee will be set up to foster same. Afternoon tea was prorided for all visiting teams, the expense of which wan met, by a special levy on the members of the team for the day. The batting and bowling averages were headed by Messrs G. Lee and R. Lee respectively. Messrs. R. H. Taylor, C. Austin, and R. Lee travelled to Oamaru with the S.C. junior representatives and worthily upheld the prestige of their Club. The balance-sheet .to be by the treasurer will show a credit of £4. which must he considered highly satisfactory. You will notice that the items for new material account form a considerable, part of ; th"e expenditure, but this was absolutely necessary to get the game going again. We have been informed by the Domain Board that the rent for the grounds this year is to be raised. Although the Club is in a sound financial position as regards assets over liabilities, it Avill be necessary for the incoming committee to husband their finances until the new year's subscriptions are in. The hearty thanks of the Club are due to the following:—All those who made a donation to the Club's funds; the Picture. Company for a benefit night; Messrs Blanchard and G. Lee for presenting the doll for guessing competition; Mr G. Lee for a Committee room; Mr J. Beri for preparing new bats; Mr C. Austin for motoring representatives to Oamaru; Mr E. Twomey for preparing wickets; and employers for letting off players. During the year your committee

held twelve meetings, the attendances at which were Tavlor 12, Beri 12, Twomey 12, Lee 11, Radford 11, Ives 9, Blanchard 4, Davies 4, and Hatton 2. The annual meeting of

the S.C. Association was held in Timaru on the 24th ultimo and was attended by Messrs Taylor and Towmey as your delegates. '-Your committee are pleased to be able to inform members that they have come to an agreement with the Domain, Board re the top dressing of the oval, in fact the work has already been put in hand. This will materially help us in the preparation of wickets. As all members are aware, New Zealand is to be visited by a team of English amateurs this coming season, which should stimulate interest in ' the game considerably. We are of the opinion that this meeting should decide to make application for the game with South Canterbury to be played at Temuka. His Worship the Mayor is very much in favour of the proposal, and has promised us Ms support and that of the Council. Another matter which will be brought before you is as 7 to whether we should step up a grade this year and resume our place amongst the senior clubs of South Canterbury. The prospects for the coming season are good, several new playing members having already been enrolled. Mr Beri ha« intimated that he will be unable to carry on as secretary. The thanks of the Club are due to him for the cons'cientious manner in which he carried out his duties. In conclusion, your committee

would appeal to members to attend practice regularly and all help with the preparation of practice wickets, thus taking some of the burden off the shoulders of a few enthusiasts.

The balance-sheet showed that the receipts amounted to £53 12s 6d, the principal items being: President and Vice-presidents £IS 17s; subscriptions £l4 10s, proceeds pictures £l3 14s 6d, doll guessing £4 15s, balance from 1921 £1 12s Gd, other items 3s (id. The expenditure amounted to £49 12s (id, the principal items being: New material £SB lis 6d, advertising and tickets £6 Is, Domain rent £3, sundries £2, leaving a credit balance of £4. The Club's assets were valued at £ls.

On the motion of Messrs Ives and Radford, the report and balancesheet were adopted. The matter of the English team's visit to New Zealand was brought up by Mr Taylor, and it was unanimously agreed to approach the S.C. Centre to allocate the proposed South Canterbury game to Temuka.

The following new members were elected:—Messrs J. Deßenzy, J. Bennett W. Younger, C. E. Bottvell, C. Manning, S. Craven, —. Mceghan, D. Grant, and —. Duncan. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

On the motion of Mr Taylor, seconded by Mr Lee, Dr. Scannell was unanimously elected President of the Club.

On taking the chair, Dr. Scannell thanked those present for the honour. He was not much of a cricketer, but he admired those who were. Years ago when he was a boy in Temuka, the Cricket Club was a very strong one, and now that it has taken a new lease of life he would do his best to make it, as strong as it was then.

The question of limiting the number of Vice-presidents was fully discussed, and it was finally decided, on the motion of Mr Taylor, tiiat the number be limited to five. A telegram was received from Mr Beri stating that he could not see his way to again take the position of secretary. Other offices were filled as follows:—Patron. Mr T. D. Utirnett.
