Althoubh the weather was dull and fogigy yesterday morning, it cleared up in good time to ensure a s.ifc'wt aitory attendance at the annual apo-vts meeting held Under the auspices oi tl e Wood\|iury Athletic Sports Association. The' sports commenced shortly before one o’clock,: and ! as the afteruon wc.ro on the attendance increased till it was almost equal to that of "oraur years, The takings at the gates atuo ii'.ed to £l2 9s, about 3s less than last year. Among those present vas ike usual fair proportion of ladies, for whom jthe Club provided a number oi comfortable seats about the lawn and under The shelter of the plantations. The arrangements made by the Club were first-rate, enabling the sports pro. gramme to be brought oil witoout a hitch, and giving their patrons a very pleasant day is outing. The refreshment booth was in the capable hands of Mr G. Bryant, and was well patronised for afternoon tea. The Geraldine Brass Band was once more to the fore, and by a progcamime of live, ly airs added greatly to the enjoyment of the bathering. The foot races and athletic contests were all well entered for, and taken all round a rather interesting list of events was brought oil. Mr J. P. Kialaugher, as handicapper, was responsible for 'good (inisii'M and keen contests ini a good many of the events, while the officials did all in' their power to make the meeting successful. Mr G. M. Hikington, the Club’s efficient secretary, had everything in- fine running order/- and the programme in consoquente wos- - through promptly to tirtre. Harris 9yds, Allen took up a strong, lead from the pistol shot, " and was never caught, winning by three or four yards ; a dead heat between Campbell and Motcalf for Second place. The two limit men led till the last lap, when the scratch man (Young) came through and won by about two lengths. H. Campbell, one of the limit men, held out; well for second place ;B. Pierce came a good third, and Patou finished fourth the rest well up. Putting 16lb Stone Handicap ■; prizes 12s Gd and 7s Gd. —U. O’Connell (3ft) 41ft 9in 1; M. Metcalf (scr) 41ft 4in 2; G. .Campbell (Tjin) 39ft Tin 3. The other competitors were—C. Moriarity 4ft and P. Fifield, A. Bishop 20yds, and Loohoro 21yds. Alexander, after passing the limit men hold his own without any trouble, and won by about two yards from Billings. At half the distance Gimson came awa v strong, but only managedto run into third place. The time Was taken in this race at 54 3-ssec.
