\ cry eunsiderablc exports business has been done in wheat from Timaru, and further large deliveries will be made within the next fortnight. The market is firm at -1/1 to -1/3 f.0.b., sacks extra, and owing to the strong cabled reports from America, farmers arc not at all keen to sell. The above ']trices may be taken as value for any quantity required. The market is very sensitive. Tor fowl wheat order’s are being bookad at up to 4/1 f.0.b., sack's in, for North Island trade. In oats, also, extensive business is being done to the United Kingdom. Freight room is wanting for the moment, but it is understood that plenty will be available soon. Tin; market is stagnant for barley, with practically no inquiry, the ghristgilurch .marketd. CI!KIETC'IIEUCII. May 2T Thu past week lias locally been the busiest in shipping grain since the days w hen when I.growing was a .much more important business than it is at present. There has been a rush to fill May charters, and there has been a large turnover of merchants’ stock to till the to[iiirements of shippers. Very little wheal or nuts lias been purchased from farmers, as the. latter are holding wheat firmly for higher prices than exporters would give, ami immediate delivery was, of course, required. Wheat has also been olfered more cheaply by holders in Timaru than could bo purchased locally by Christchurch shipiKM's, and consequently there has been no disposition to make any advance upon the ruling price of -I/- at country stations. Tor a spccial'ly good line 1/1 was offered, but was refused. Eor oats there Ims been an active enquiry during the week for shipping purposes, but no advance in price is reported, and as in wheat the turnover has been between merchants. 'Potatoes arc rather •easier, as growers have been offering .more freely, and acceptin'.;’ (15/- at stations.
