THE DYNAMITE OUTRAGE.
EELLDING, July 23 It is diuieult to get further infonnatio» about the explosion at Bunnythorpe, owing to the owners and police refusing admittance to the building to everyone. Last year the dried milk operations were suspended owing to litigation in the Old Country, and butter-making was resorted to. This causes considerable dissatisfaction amongst suppliers, who had disposed of then- calves and pigs, and had no use
for skim milk. Subsequently the build ing was burned down, and the work was believed to be the work of an incendiary. The litigation having terminated in favor of the factory owners, the_ building was re-erected, and it was iniended to start operations next month. A man Mho resides in the building w a s not injured, while the engineer's residence alongside was not damaged. It is believed that gelignite was the explosive used. Glass from the windows was blown some chains from the factory. Mr Bailey, .engineer in charge, who lives next to the factory, was awa.ken.ed at 2.30 on Sunday morning by two loud reports in quick succe«sioii. He immediately dressed, and went towards the factory, but just before starting another terrific explosion took place. The door of the boiler house, which had not been locked Ihe previous night, was wide open. The damage is not very extensive. The boiler is completely wrecked, but the engine is only slightly damaged, and the opening of lite factory next month will not be interfered with. No tr a ce of fuse was found.
