PRESENTATION.

A large number of friends of Mr Arthur Cunnard met in the 'Star Hotel last evening, for the purpose of making I" 1 " u presentation prior to his departure for 'Frisco.

Mr J). Rodgers occupied the chair, and in making the presentation spoke, of the .sterling qualities of tin: guest, ol the evening. He wishrd him all success in his now home, and hoped to see him back in New Zealand in a I'-'w years with his pockets bulging with "Yankee dollars."

Mr M. Melvin and Mr J. Barrett also wished Mv Cunnard Godspeed. In rising to reply, Mr Cunnard w a s greeted villi loud applause. lie thanked I Item for their good wishes, and handsome present, mid assured them he would ever treasure it. A long toast list was gone through, and songs were contributed bv the follow i*g :—Messrs G. Williams". Milsom, J). Collins, A. Cooper, M. Hor■J,o.u, F. McLean, J. Miller, \V. Keeu and L. Story.

A very pleasant evening was brought to a close with a vote of lliauks °t o •tae chair.

The presentation took the form of a gold _ albert, with a greenstone shield in the centre, surmounted by the words "ivi a Ora." Suspended bolow was a massive gold star, with a raised centre, encircled by two funis. •Mr Cunnard leaves by the 2 p.m. express to-morrow.
