PRESENTATION.

There was a very pleasant meeting of old neighbours and friends of Mr andMry Boland in the Orari Hotel on Thursday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Quirk received those present as guests and did so in quite handsome style. Mr W. Hawke was called upon to preside. A telegram from Mr Latimer was received, expressing his inability to be present and at the same time his best wishes to Mr and Mrs Boland. The chairman mentioned that for nearly id years he had been more or loss intimately associated with Mr Boland in various capacities. He believed ho was the first to bo employed by him, and the acquaintance thus termed had ripened into the warmest friendship. He was always attentive to his business, and had in,, consequence been successful. The humorous story of the '•‘White Sparrow " was told as an illustration of the necessity of getting up early to attend to one’s affairs, and Mr Boland had nod been wanting in the watchfulness implied. Mrs Boland he had always found to be one of the most kindhearted ladies. Although they met here to bid goodbye he hoped it would not be a long goodbye, and that Mr Boland would take up land again somewhere not far away, and that the pleasant intercourse" of the past would be continued in the future. Mr W. Mason homologated the chairman’s remarks and bore testimony to the sterling qualities of those whom they had met to offer a tribute of esteem. During his stay in Orari he had had almost daily intercourse with Mr Boland. He had boon associated with him on the Park Board, the School Committee, and in various ways, which showed his willingness to take part in whatever tended to the welfare of the community. With regard to Mrs Boland he felt impressed by her intcllegcnce and sympathetic nature, and a talk with her always seemed to do him good. Re was sorry to part with such Kind neighbours and wished them good health and every joy. , Messrs Richardson and Forsyth also made a few suitable remarks." The chairman, on behalf of their old neighbours, presented Mr and Mrs Boland with a beautiful silver tea and colfco service with a case of suitable spoons, and hoped that they would recall many pleasant memories ofj Orari, and ho offered hearty good wishes for long life to enjoy them. in accepting the gifts Mr Boland tendered thanks, and thought that were altogether too kind to him, hut their goodness would never be forgotten.
