FOOTBALL.
S.C. RUGBY UNION. A general meeling of vhe South Canterbury Rugby Union was held in the Wallingford Hotel on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs J. O’Leary, Tiniaru (in the chair), Shiimpton, J. IT. Anderson, W. J. Lewis, W. J. Moore, W. Grant, P. Gaffa.ney, F. W. Shallard, and J. P. Kaiaugher (hon. sec.). Correspondence was rend as follows : From New Zealand Rugby Union, notifying alteration re free kid: for lifting foot in scrum, and stating that North v. South Island matches would be played every year—one to be played this year in Wellington. From Mr D. A. Shaw, riderec in Temuka 111. v. High School on July 10th, stating that he had ordered off Luke Story, of Temuka, ''or deliberate tripping.—lt was resolved to suspend the player named for two ■weeks.
From Pirates F.C., stating that they did not know of tneir fixture with Temuka in time to cet a team, and asking the union to fix a date for match.—lt was decided, on the motion of Messrs Lewis and Shrimpton, that the match be played at Temuka if the union can fix a date. A protest was received from High School against Temuka 111. for playing members over 18 years of age. The Temuka team contained one player over age, but the officials of the club were not aware that he was over age.—lt was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Messrs Kaiaugher and Moore, that the match be played again in Timaru on July 31st. It was resolved to offer Southland £lO to play a representative match in Temuka on Thursday, September •4th. A motion was carried fixing the North Otago representative match for August 7th, in Timaru, on the Athletic grounds. It was agreed, on the motion of Mr Moore, to hold the Seven-a-Side Tournament in Temuka on August J Ith ; to have three, competitions, Senior, Junior, and Third Class. Entrance to be 10s 6d each team for Senior and Junior, and 5s for Third Class. Games to commence not later than 1.30 p.m., and prizes to be gold medals for Senior and silver medals for Junior, all suitably engraved. It was agreed to send a team to play a representative match against Canterbury in Christchurch on August 23rd, Saturday, if that date is suitable to the Canterbury Union. Mr O’Leary then spoke on the matter of sending a South Canterbury team on lour next year to play Canterbury, Wellington, Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, and possibly other unions. He said that unless South Canterbury sent a team away they could not expect other union learns to play here. He was certain that a Irani could be sent, ami with small expense lo the union and to the players. Air W. J. Lewis supported the idea, and said that it. would be well to make, a move in the matter at the annual meeting next year. Messrs Kaiaugher, Moore, and Shallard also considered that a team should be sent, and hoped that steps would he taken to do so. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair. REFEREES FOR THURSDAY. Pirates v. Waimate in Timaru, Mr Amos. Temuka 11. v. Star in Timaru, Mr C. F. Collins. Temuka 111. v. Colonials in Timaru Mr Shirtcliffc. High School v. Old Boys in Timaru, Mr Shaw. A challenge has been received by the Waihi Football Club from the Maori Club at Kaiapoi to play at Winchester on Saturday, August 2. As, however, the visitors want gate money it is doubtful if the match can take place.
