Customs and Trade Returns.
The Customs revenue'for the quarter ended September 30th, amounted to £621,595, as against £577,737 for the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. Of this amount £130,119 was derived from spirits, £74,462 from manufactured tobacco, £38,100 from sugar, molasses, etc , and £263,501 from onenumerated duties. The t xcise duties for the quarter amounted to £20.779, ae against £19,910 tor the corresponding quarter of last year. Of this amount £19,322 was derived from beer. The value i f imports at the several ports for the quarter was £3,314,936, as against £2,934,979 for the corresponding quarter of 1900 The imports from rhe United Kingdom increased as between the two periods from £1,815,456 to £2,165,905. Other large items in the imports are : New South Wales, £272,246 ; United states, £312,787; Victoria, £105.086; Bengal, £99,624, The exports for the quarter a -ousted to £2.432,820, as against £2,316,369. Of this amount £1,475,828 was the value of the exports to the United Kingdom, as against. £1,605.175 for the same quartet of 1900 Other large amounts were;—Victoria, £245,617 ; New South Wales, £23 ,469; N atal, £210,752; United States, £104,138. The amounts cleared for export at the chief ports were as follows: Auckland, £as3 850 ; Welliugt hi, £213,632 (as against £300,712 for the corresponding quarter of 1900) ; Lyttelton, £530,382 (as against £439.853); Timaru, £233,159 (as against £.81,985) ; Dunedin,£3sS,927; Inver argi11,£267,645 (asaga ust The piincipalitems of export were ns follows ; Minerals,, £478.449 ; fisheries products, £6872 ; limber, gum, etc.. £214,019 ; animals and produce. £1,094,068; -gricultural products, £473,293 ; manufactures, £104,871.
