New York, March 13. Preparations for war on the part of America continue with increasing energy. In receiving Seuor Beruabo, the Spanish Minister at Washington, President McKinley reciprocated the hope for the maintenance of poace expressed by Maria Christina, Queen Regent of Spain. Washington, March 14. The American Government are accelerating the construction of a hundred and fifty big guns at the Washington factory, with a view of arming thirty auxiliary cruisers. An inspection is also being made of forty steamers suitable for conversion into cruisers. Among these are the new American line mail steamers St. Paul aud St. Louis. The United States has purchased two warships from the Brazilian Government, London, March 14. The Standard’s New York correspondent says that, despite the official assurances of a pacific nature, values of stocks have fallen, some to the extent of 7 per cent.
