FOOTBALL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sik, —I see by the letters in your paper that the members of the Woodbury Club are a bit sore over the report of the recent match. Your correspondent" Blue and White" I do not know, and shall simply pass him by, remarking that the bit of egotism shown by him reminds mo of the darkey whose dog was killed in a dog fight. When asked if his dog won, he said " It would have won, only for the other dog!" Your correspondent "Captain of Woodbury Team" I do know, and so shall reply to his letter. He says that we had a member of the Waihi Ist playiug for us. I suppose he refers to our worthy skipper. I was not aware that Macdonald was recognised as one, but had the impression that he had only played in that team as a substitute, and I think that lam correct; if wrong lam open to correction. But that is not the point. Macdonald is a bona fide resident of Geraldiue, and his name was advertised as a player, whereas both South and Moore do not live at Woodbury, and their names were not advertised, so that it was an undoubted case of ringing them in. He further says he heard of no dissatisfaction. Well, considering that all our team objected to them playing, and only gave in when he absolutely refused to play us unless the two men were allowed to play, I should thiuk that sufficient. Again, he admits that an emergency man was turnsd off who ought to have played before either Moore or South, seeing that he had been chosen and they not, aud 1 have it on the authority of a Woodbury resident that South played in the jersey of the mau who was turned off. I do not wish to say anything against the Woodbury team, for it is undoubtedly a good team with a good captain, aud, if they stick together, next year they should have a big say in the Junior Flag, should they enter for it, but I should certainly advise thmn in the future to stick to bona fide residents, and not take outsiders who are playiug for other clubs. The two men may be members of the Woodbury Club, but this fact remains : that they both offered me their services to play for Geraldiue, which 1 declined with thanks. Apologising for trespassing so much on your valuable space, and thanking you iu anticipation, I am, etc., Vice-Captain G.F.C.
