TEMPERANCE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Will you kindly publish the following :—" Bishop Keane (a Bishop of the Roman Catholic Church), recently said in a pastoral: 'Oh how I hate that (liquor) business. It is a curse, and no man of honor, uo Christian, should engage in it. Ido not care if Ido hurt the feelings of some; I will speak the truth and shame the devil. The Catholic Church appeals to all Catholics to get out of the business and seek some more reputable way of making a living.' Then Bishop Cameron, of Antigonish, created a censation, both in the Temple aud among the liquor-dealers, by his uncompromising deliverance. The Bishop takes the most advanced ground on the Temperance question,. denounces professing Christiana who are weak-hneed on the subject, insists upon total abstinence among his priests, commands them to establish Temperance Societies in their parishes and request every member of their church to sign the pledge, and withdraw from his priests the power to absolve anyone engaged in the liquor traffic.—l am, etc., 1.0.G.T.
