CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE,
The following is the Corn Exchange report (per F Denham, Secretary), for the week ending June 11th :
Wheat—We think the market decidedly easier, and have had great difficulty in drawing sellers and buyers together on some large parcels in our hands. We note from the English market that Dantsic and Koingsborg wheat always quotes 3s to 4s per quarter above a]l others. If this is a wheat of a particular class and a good yielder, it is a matter of regret we have not got it; (Id per bushel seems to us worth looking after. Barley - The demand has slackened. Oats—-A fair enquiry at rates quoted. Tartars have, as we anticipated, dropped back. Potatoes—A little mom inquiry, but not a great trade doing. The following are prices paid to farmers, f.0.h., packages extra, potatoes excepted ; Wheat—Tuscan, 3s (id; pearl, 5s (id; hunters, 3s 4d; damaged, according to condition.
Barley—Malting, 4s 5 seconds, oa to 3s !‘d. Oats—Milling, Is 9d ; feed, Is 4d to Is 7d ; tartars, Is 7d. Ryegrass—3s to 3s fid, machine dressed. Potatoes —■ Short delivery, 17s fid denvents; 22s Gd kidneys. Batter —Factory, lid; farmers’, 7d to 9d. Cheese, 3kl to 4d, CHRISTCHURCH STOCK MARKETS, At the Addington yards on Wednesday all departments were well represented. Store Sheep —-Crossbred lambs Sold from 8s lid to !)s, two-tooth crossbreds at 14s to 14s 7d, aged ewes at 12s to 12s 7d, merino wethers at 8s 7d, and merino ewes at 5s Bd, Fat Sheep—4soo yarded, including a number of good sorts of crossbred wethers ami majdeu owes, and some heavyweight Hampshire Bowes and crosslved ewes, and a quantity of merino wethers and ewes of varied quality. The sale of the best wethers was about on a par with last week’s prices, values ranging from 18s to 235, and for lines of wethers and maiden ewes from IGs to 19s Gd. The tone of the market for lighter sorts of mixfcd spxes and for merino wethers was decidedly easier, and values were from Is to 1 s Gd a head easier than, fit recent sales. Fat Cattle—About 150 head otftnpd, The demand for good sorts was fair, heifers selling from £5 IDs to TG 15s, and steers from £G to £7 12s Gd, The sale of second-rate beef was comparatively dull, and several lots remained unsold, though the demand for really fat cows was good. Store and Dairy Cattle—One nice lino of bullocks in forward condition brought TG Is, and a few yearlings realised from 23s to 30s, There was a large entry of •dairy cows, some of which sold readily at ’ from T 8 to T 9 3s, while ordinary milkers went from T 4 10s to TG 10s. Pigs—Bacon era sold at from 28s to 455, and porkers at from 15s to 28s, every lino being disposed of at satisfactory rates to the vendors.
