INFLUENZA IN AUSTRALIA.
Melbourne, Sept. 14. There is a serious outbreak of the influenza epidemic at Castlemaine, where two deaths have taken place in one family, and two other members of the same family are in a critical condition. Almost the entire population of Evanford are prostrate. Adelaide, Sept. 14. Influenza is very prevalent, and several deaths have occurred. - ' LABOR. , London, September 12. The Trades Union Congress almost unanimously decided to nominate workmen as members at the next election. Sept. 13. The Trades Union Congress has closed. Many of the motions of which notice was given were not debated, and the members complain that the Congress was too big* to allow of proper debate. ' Sept. 14. ; The Daily News is in sympathy with the Liberals of the Trades Union Congress, and demands payment of' members and increase in the representation of labour. Five hundred of the dockers of the Carron Leith shipping companies have struck against a reduction in wages, and the strike is likely to affect the Australian export trade.
