The Salvation Army, Geraldine, held a very successful anniversary tea meeting on Monday evening. The tables, five in all, were presided over by Mesdames Chesterman, Pizzey, Hansen, Baughen, and Cook, and Misses Payne,' Pawson, Margates, and Fronting. The Oddfellows’ Hall, which had been engaged for the occasion was crammed, and as soon as one lot of people had finished tea another lot were waiting, to take their places, and thus the tea, which commenced shortly after six, was prolonged till after 7.30. The band then turned out and a march was made, after which a public meeting wag held, and addresses given by Captain aiffi Mrs Potter, Captains Murray and Crossby, Major Vince, and Mr Flatman. During his remarks Major Vince referred to the projected new barracks for Geraldine. He said that owing to the fact that two barracks, one at Dunedin and one at Mosgiel, were already in hand, they could not see their way to commence the Geraldine one at once, bnt he could assure them that in the course of three or four months a start, would he made. Last evening Captain Murray farewelled to Geraldine, having received instructions from Head-quarters to take charge of the Sydenham Garrison. Captain Murray has been stationed at Geraldine for about six months, and during that, time has won a good many friends, who will. no doubt regret her departure. Her place will be taken by Captain Patton, from (Queenstown, who will arrive in Geraldine (to-morrow) evening Lieutenant' Hartland, of the Wellington Rescue Home will also be stationed at Geraldine to assist Captain Patton.
