ST. SAVIOUR'S CHURCH, TEMUKA.
The tea and gift auction in aid of the Sunday Sohool Building Fund was held in the Volunteer Hall on Tuesday last, and passed off most successfully. For once the weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance very good. Tke tea tablet were over by Mesdames Hayhuißt, J. T. M. Hayhurst, Hamilton, Dann, Wills, and Surridgo, assisted by the Missel MoPherson. Lucas, Pi" brow (2), Wills (2), Korberfe, Phillips, Bunford, and Varney. f Tho provisions were supplied by Messrs McOaakill and Marshall, supplemented by gifts irom various members of the congregation. The tables wore an unusually brigat appearance, owing to the display of new "china" and "silver" purohasod by the ladies out of the proceedo acoruing from the " socials " of tost year. let being disposed of, the gift auction oommenoed about 8 p.m. Mr Mundell kindly gave his sort.ices, and under his hammer the goodm were speedily disposed of at satisfactory prices. Mr Aapinall's fat pig, killed and cleaned, sold for £2, Mr Da Benzy'fl fat sheep for 12a 6d ' "firsts" wheat realised 12i 6d, and " seconds " do 8s 6d. A pen of splendid fowls from Mr Holwell, of llilford, attraoted much attentiyn. Tne " pieoe de resistance" of the evening was the sale of the bla ksmith's shop on the sohool site, which sold for the sum of £2O. The front part was knoeked down to Mir D. McOallum for £ll 10s, and the lean-to to Mr Andrews (Waitohi) for £8 10s. At the close of the salt. Mr Pinckney moved a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Mundell for his valuable services. This was seconded by Mr Dann, and earned with cheers. The net receipts of the sale will probably be from £45 to £SO, and this added to the cash collected and promised will amount: to a total of £144. Strong efforts will be put forth to reaoh the sum of £IBO, to enable the vestry to seeure Mr Bayner's £2O, whioh was promised con* ditional on that amount being raised. The hearty thanks of the congregation are due to Messrs Pinokney and Dann (the churchwardens) for their strenuous efforts during the day, and also to Messrs Newbury, Surridge, and Eraser, and Mrs Boulter, for their kind services.
