Members supposed the owner and the ohartering agents were not awaro that the board possessed such & powerful tux as the • Manv And in was resolved 'o cfleu to pay tho travelling expenses of the>oaptaiu of the Hinemoa if he pleases to visit Tiinaiu. Messva Parry Perry acd Kiunerney, the board's solicitors, submitted a long opinion on the board's dispute with the fiuilway Commissioners respecting tha reclaimed land. The opinion was decidedly that the board have all the facta, law and qualities on tbeir side, end that the t'oainussioners oould be.prcvontei by injamotion dealing as thoy proposed with the reoiain'ition. It was uuanimoutly resolved tint the proposal of tho Bailway Ccmuaiaiionera for a settlement of the dispute re foreshore be declined, and that the Standing Committee, aoting on the advice of tho solicitor*, be authorised to take any Btepj they may deem necessary to enforoa compliance with the y original agreement made with tho JTublio T Works Dapartmeot. Ho urged upon the board the desirability of providing more shelter; this being all the moro necessary as we are likoly to havo * larger olasa of vessels in the near future. Mr Hill: What does tie mean by "more shelter"? The ohairnnn : He wants everything j we all want eyerything j but we cannot get it.— [Mr Gibson: Gates auress the cntranoe].— So doubt ho would wish to have the range reduced, and also to have more wharfage by the north wall, and many other things, and the board wsuld Oa willing to do these things if they had the money to do it with. Mr Flotmm : If we had a wharf by tbe north wall the Hinemoa would have had n» doubt about corn in i here. ! The engineer reported as follows :—Sines last meeting we have had somo heavy seas which broke up part of the railway on the breakwater curve, together with some of the i oonorete surrounding the sleepers ; in doing so the gas pipe whioh supplies the entrance light was dislodged aad the light extinguished. The light was immediately restored by an oil lamp, and the gas connection has sinoe been made good. ~"~~ THB BHINGLB QTJHBTIOir. The standing committee reported re Messrs Perry & Perry's opinion with regard to the dispute with the railway commissioners and other matters, after which the report , submitted by Messrs Wilson and Napier Bell V on the shingle question was read. The re- ( port is too long ior publication in this issue. It practically bears out the report of Mr O'Connor, and hss scarcely anything new in it. It reoommends the removal of the shingle in tbe same way as Messrs O'Oonnor and (joodall did.
