SUPREME COURT.

Wellington, Dec. 6. Ward, whom the jury found guilty of common assault on a young girl, was sentenced to one calendar month’s hard labour. Judge Prendergast said he felt that the verdict of the jury was utterly unreasonable, and it had prevented him dealing with the prisoner in a manner he richly deserved. In His Honour's opinion the girl had been thrown down, and it was only by chance that she had not suffered the grossest indignities. Dunedin, Dec. 6. At the Supreme Court, the second jury found Myles guilty, and Mr Justice Williams sentenced Finlay, Henderson, and Myles to four years’ penal servitude, remarking that the crime of robbery with violence was one which must be put down effectively.
