GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of this committee!, was held in the schoolhouse, Geraldine, on Wednesday evening last. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman), J. Eiordan, W. H. Walton, 0; E. Sherratt, and H. E. Howard. • MnnriES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. chairman’s statement. The chairman stated that he had had the fence by the river repaired, the yard shingled and drained, and a coal bunker erected. r INSPECTOR'S REPORT. /Che Inspector’s half-yearly report oh the school was read and considered very, satisfactory. Ensure of the status. The SC. Board of Education forwarded the resolution of the Board to take steps to have the status ef the school raised to that of a District High School. After a little discussien it was resolved—“ That letters be written to the member for the district, also to Messrs Turnbull andEhodes, urging them to use their utmost endeavors to have the school so raised for the reasons embodied in ihe report.” Very great satisfaction was expressed at the articles which had in the Geraldine Guardian on the question of raising the school. HEAD master’s EETOET. ' The master’s'report as read showed the average attendance for the past month to have been 194, with 261 on the roll. A.list of those parents who had rendered theojselves liable to prosecution under the compulsory clauses of the Education Act for not sending their children to school was also presented with the report. The list showed the attendance of each defaulting child. In one case a child had not attended once out of a possible 114 times, and in other cases the attendances were very low. It was decided to give the parents notice, and in case of non-compliance to strictly enforce the compulsory clauses of the Act. VISITORS’ REPORT, ETC. The visitors’ report showed the school to be working satisfactorily. Messrs Eiordan and Shiers were appointed visitors for the ensuing month. dangbe to, children. Attention was called to the very great danger that the children ran by congregating on the road during the pinner hour for play. It was pointed out that the school ground is too small and too dirty to Keep the large number of children in, and that this would be remedied when the new school buildings were erected ' in a different site. accounts.
