ROAD BOARD ELECTIONS.

! GERALDINE. The polling for the election of five members to serve on this Board took place yesterday. The polling booths were as usual at Geraldine, Woodbury, and Hilton. At the first-named place a good deal of interest was taken, and a fair number of votes polled, but at both outside booths very little interest was taken in the election. The public had a good list of candidates to choose from, there being no less than ten candidates. All the members of the old Board stood, with the exception of the Chairman, Mr W. Postlothwaite, and three of thorn were re-elected. The following is the result of the polling : Geral- Wood-

Messre Deßenzy and McShane polled an equal, number of vu>tes, viz., 95, and the tossing of a coin, by the Keturning Officer (Mr Shiers) decided that his casting vote should be in favor of Mr Deßenzy. Mr Kelland received quite an ovation from the ratepayers present, and it was some time before the cheers subsided sufficiently to allow of his speaking. He returned thanks to his supporters for the proud position they had placed him in, and trusted he should continue to merit their confidence. Messrs Platman, Corbett, Grant, and Binskin also returned thanks, while Messrs Platman and Kelland returned thanks on behalf of Messrs Slack and Deßenzy respectively. Mr Kelman essayed to speak, but the crowd present would not allow him to do so. TEMUKA. Only three gentlemen haying been nominated to fil the vacancies on the Temuka Road Board there are still two vacant seats, and to fill these the returning officer, Mr W. Wills, announces that he will receive nominations up till noon on the iSth May. If a poll is necessary it will be taken on the 28th.
