MASONIC SOCIAL.

Probably one of the most enjoyable entertainments ever held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Geraldine, was that which took place in that building on Thursday evening last, under the auspices of the members of the Southern Star Lodge, No. 17, S.C. The social is one of a series to be held during the winter months. At nine o'clock, the hour appointed for opening the gathering, the members entered the room in procession, wearing their regalia, and marched round the room to a march played by Messrs Gates ! Brothers, of Ashburton, on the piano and violin. This concluded, dancing was commenced in downright earnest, and a long programme, consisting of dancing and singing alternately, was gone through till supper was announced. This had been laid in the Masonic Hall, which adjoins that of the Oddfellows', and the simple statement that it had been catered for by Bro. E. Taylor is sufficient. Before proceeding to supper the members of the lodge divested themselves of their regalia, and invested their lady companions with the same. Supper being finished dancing was recommenced, and was "continued with much spirit until about five o'clock the following morning. During the evening songs were contributed by Misses Miller, Cooling, Dunlop, and Andrews, and Messrs Cochrane, Menzies, Macdonald, Aitken, and Gates. Miss Andrews and Messrs Ywh. and Grates acted as accompanists. Mr W. M. Patrick acted ai M.C., the music for the dancing being supplied by Messrs Gates Brothers. Among tbe other decorations of the hall waa a floral device of a Masonic square and compass, worked in evergreens and flowers. 'J here were a large number of brethren and visitors present. One and all appeared to enjoy themselves very much, and expressed a hope that many similar entertainments would be held in connection with the lodge. Before dispersing the National Anthem and "Auld Lang Syne" were sung by the company.
