TEMPERANCE MEETINGS.
GERALDINE, The usual weekly meetin« of the Welcome Retreat Lodge w»s held in the Good Templars’ Hall, Geraldine on Monday evening, Bro. K, McKenzie, W.C.T., presiding, The officers’ roll call showed one to be absent. Twelve candidates were initiated into the order. During the evening a recess for harmony was declared, when some songs and recitations were given by several of the brethren and sisters. Amongst other routine business transacted it was decided to hold an open Lodge on Monday evening, September 13. The Lodge Deputy also announced that he would hold a degree meeting on Sept. 6ib. This being all the business to transact the Lodge was closed in the usual form. A meeting of the Band of Hope was held in the Good Templar Hall on Tuesday evening last. It having been announced in the Gebaldisb Gdabdian that the meeting was to take the character of an open meeting, and that burs and coffee wraild be handed round, therp wps ft large attendance both of mem bera and friends. The superintendent of the Lodge Mr J. S. Waite, pr* sided, A number of song - , recitations, duets, etc., were given by the young people, and addrsseea by one of two of the o.'der folk. Mr

Andrews, and E. Body. In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Scott, Mr Watson presided. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. On the motion of Mr Andrews, seconded by Mr Body, it was resolved to hold the next public meeting on Tuesday, September 10th, and that, ns the last public meeting had miscarried on account of the inclement-wenther, the Kevs, Wm. White ond Jasper Smyths be again invited to address the meeting, The Secretary was ins'ructed to procure a bag of coals for tha use of the choir ; the account to be remitted as soon as possible. Mr A. J. Andrews proposed—“ That this Committee do deeply and sincerely sympathise with their Chairman, Mr Scott, in the recent very serious bereavement in his family.” Mr Body bad much pleasure in seconding the proposition, which wss carried unanimously, the Secretary being instructed to convey the same to Mr Scott, The meeting then adjourned.
