Night School at Tbmtjka.—Mr H. Cross, M. A.,'opens anight school in the Ttimuka District High Bchool at 7.30" p.m. on Wednesday, when intending pupils are requested to bo present. Accident. Arowhbnua Town Boabd. —The, first meeting of the newly-elected Arowhenua Town Board takes place, at Mr E. Lee's store*, Arowlienua, at half-past seven o'clock this evening, when a Chairman will be ep pointed, dates of meetings fixed, etc Band ov Hope.—An open meeting of the Geraldine Band of Hope takes place this evening in the Good Templars'Hall. Songs, recitations, etc., will be given by the members, and duiing the evening refreshments will be handed round. These open meetings are really very enjoyable, and those interested in the temperance cause could not do better than Bpend an evening at the hall. TIMAKTJ A. AND P. ASSOCIATION. A Committee meeting of this Association took place last Saturday. A letter was received from the Minister of Agriculture, Victoria, ia answer to a communication from the Sec retary of the Association, stating that he regretted that he was unable to oomply with the request for a supply of Mexican wheat this season, and suggesting that the requests be renewed next season. Mr P. J. Murphy, of the Waihao, was elected a member. Special prizes were received from Mr G. H. Rhodes, £lO, for the best horse, hunted with a recognised pack of hounds (to be entered in Classes 151 and 152 in the new catalogue) ; from Mr Andrew Grant, £2, for the best English Leicester ewe, with or without lamb; from the members and friends of the Association, Challenge Cup, value £52, for largest prizetaker in breeding stock, Bheep, cattle, and horses. It. was decided to hold the annual horse parade on September; 26th. Temuka Rimb Volunteeb Minstbeis. —A meeting of the above Club was held in the Royal Hotel, Temuka, last. Saturday; evening, at which-there was "'a, lair attendance. It was decided, on the,mojion of Mr Clinch, seconded by Mr Williams, to call the Club ■" The T.R.V. Minstrels?! bb .the lentertainmenls they intend giving will be in aid of the new drill shed.. Mr Levens.-prqposed, Mr Williams seebndedy :and it wsb: carried unanimously, that the Committee draw up a programme and call another meeting within a fortnight. ,On the motion of Mr Clinch, seconded by Mr Leveris, it was roresolved unanimously * that Band-Sergeant Rutland be asked to kindly act as conductor of the musical part of the entertainment. Walker, and intend to travel him in the Geraldine; Waitohi, and Timar.j districts. "Trump Card is a sire that -will doubtless be much sought after if the price asked for his service is not considered too high by bre«ders, By the permission of the owners we spperid a" list of Trump. Card's performances ;-r»At Christchurch, in April 1877, won the Champagne Stakes. At Christchurch, in, November 1878, won the Derby, ran second to Ariel for the Canterbury Cup, and won the Christchurch Plate, beating Danebury and Bribery, At Wellington, in February 1878, he won the Derby and ran second to Lara for the Wellington Cup, Lara being a 5-year-old, and oarrying 7st 71bs to Trump Card's 7st 131bs. At Dunedin, in February 1878, he won the Publicans' Handicap, beating Isaac Walton, etc., Isaac Walton being a 5-year-old, carrying; 7st 181 b, against Trump Card's Bsfc 31bs. He also won the Dunedin Derby and the Queen's Plate, over two miles and a distance, beating Templeton at weight for age. Templeton must have been in his very bsisfc form, as he won the Dunedin Cup and D.J.C. Handicap on the two previous days. This performance was one of the best ever done in New Zealand, and stamps Trump Card bs a very high-class horse.
