The shipment, however, was not suit through the Agent-General's department. Ministers will shortly be on the move again. Mr Ballance leaves for Wanganui on Saturday and Mr Stout will probably visit the South for a few days, leaving on Monday. Mr Larnach will shortly make a tour of the South Island raining districts, visiting tha West Coast first. Mr Buckley intends to proceed to Auckland shortly, and Mr Kichardson will, as soon as departmental duties allow him, vimt the West Coast and the South Island.
The half-yearly sitting of the Supreme Court at Oaroaru, opened on Monday. There art eight cases on the calendar, including child murder, anon, libel, embezzlement, forgery, etc. The Judge's charge contained nothing special. Poole, for cruelly ill-treating his stepson, and Alfred Lovegrove, for assault with intent, who were convicted at the last session and sentence reserved for the Appeal Court, came up for sentence. Poole was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labor, and Lovegrore to two years' hard labor. F. W. Martin pleaded " Guilty " to embezzlement and was sentenced to three years' imprisonment. Thomas Hardy pleaded " Guilty" of larceny and was sentenced to three years. John Barry, a Chinaman, for false pretences, was ordered to be imprisoned for one day in consideration of his having been in gftol three months awaiting his trial. J. J. Onssh, charged with robbery from the person, was discharged, A lengthy meeting of the Cabinet was held at the residence of Sir Julius Yogel, Wellington, on Tuesday afternoon, but the questions decided were of a confidential nature. Parliament will, it is understood, be called together either in the first or second week in May, The consideration of jthe Central Prison site was deferred until Mr Tole's arrival In Wellington. The Cabinet met again yesterday, and sittings will be held each day this week.
