NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION MEETING.
At Wanganui the weather was glorious on Wednesday, bnt rather too bright for shooting until the afternoon when some good scores were made. Fair progress was made at the Auckland match. Counting for both belts was concluded short'y afier dinner, when the Marlborough match, in which rifles competed, was started and finished shortly before G o’clock. The carbine representatives are endeavoring to get up two team nvtclies, and a letter was sent to the Council urging this course, but nothing is yet decided. The Auckland Match, 200, 300 and 500 yards, seven shots, counting for both belts, was fired on Wednesday. The only South Canterbury competitor whose name appears among the prize winners is ihat of Lieutenant Ferguson, of the Timaru Rifles, who comes fourth with 79 points, and takes £5. The Wanganui Mat ah, 100, 300, and ,500 yards, counting both belts, add the Nelson Match, 300 and 500 yards, for carbines only, were fired orr Thursday. The highest scorer in the former wag Gunner Webster, of the Auckland Artillery, with 95 points, who takes £2O, and in the latter. Gunner Foster. Port Chalmers, 77 points, who takes £lO. It is expected that the Championship will be decided on Saturday afternoon.
