ASIATIC CHOLERA IN AUSTRALIA.
Tottnyillb, Dec, 11. An outbreak of what appears ito be cholera occurred on board the BritishIndia Steam Navigation Company’s K.M-S. Dorunda, which arrived here today from London. Later. The outbreak of the disease on the Dorunda is developing to an alayming extent. Up to the present four deaths have occurred—one adult, and , three children. Sixteen, persons are now seriously ill, four of whom are apparently dying, the symptoms of the disease are those of Asiatic cholera. One man who was quite well on Wednesday morning died before night. The outbreak occurred after the vessel loft Cook - town. It is believed the disease was carried aboard 'at Batavia, Latest.
Further enquiries relative to the ap-; pearance of cholera on the Dorunda tend to confirm the supposition that jthe in-' fection was caught at Batavia. The inhabitants of this town displayed considerable anger at the doctor coming. ashore after being in contact with the patient. In order to test the pubMcl feeling, and to prevent the possibility of the disease spreading on shore, the' Mayor Commanded the doctor not to leave his home for the present. Brisbane, Dec. 12. News from Townsville slates, that more dentlis fropa cholera have pecurred on board the Dorunda. The Victorian ; Gazette contains a notice to the effect that in view of the outbreak of cholera on board ! the b.b. Dorunda, all vessels from Queensland will be subjected to quarantine on arrival at Port Phillip. ■
