GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The usual monthly meeting of this Committee was held in the schoolroom on Friday evening. Present—Messrs N. Dunlop (Chairman), A, Sherratt, Geo. Ward, and R. S. Clock. MINDIES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. THE NEW CLASS ROOM. The Chairman reported that the subcommittee .appointed to ascertain particulars as to cost, etc., of the new class room had met and drawn up a report, which had been forwarded to the Board through the Rev. Geo. Barclay. THE INFANT ROOM WINDOWS. The Chairman said his attention had been drawn to the windows in the infant room. The lower halves had been nailed down and the upper halves did not give sufficient ventilation during the hot woather. Mr Cook said the reason the lower halves of the windows had been fastened was because of so many complaints being made of illness among the children. He considered the draught there would be if the windows were opened again would be very detrimental to the health of the children. Mr Sherratt said the windows were liable to be broken by the children getting through at playtime if they were open at the bottom. He suggested that ventilators should be put into the wall on the opposite side of the room, so as to allow a current of air to pass from the upper half of the windows through the room, the ventilators to be of sufficient height above the floor-to prevent a draught being felt in the room. The matter was left to the Visitors to see to. INTERVIEW. Mrs Holloway waited on the Committee in reference to the fence between her section and the school grounds. She wished to come to some arrangement with the Committee about a new fence, as the children were often getting through into her garden. As she ii> tended planting a live fence, she thought the best way would be to put up a rough paling fence to protect it. After a short discussion it was moved by Mr Sherratt, seconded by Mr Ward, and carried—“ That it be left with the Visiting Committee to call for tenders and get the work done.” HEAD master’s REPORT. Mr Hughes reported that the average attendance for the present month to date had been 170; working average, 176 ; average for the past week, 189 ; highest attendance on any day, 206. The pump had for some time been out of order; and needed constant repairs. Three panes of glass needed replacing in the windows, one in the porch, and two in the windows of the infant and hoys’ room respectively. No notice had as yet been received of the annual visit of the Inspector. The Visiting Committee were instructed to see to the repairs to the windows and pump. , VISITORS. The Chairman and Messrs Cook and Sherratt were appointed a Visiting Coni-, raitlee for the month, HOLIDAYS. It was decided not to fix the date of the summer holidays till after the school had been visited by the Inspector. This being all the business the meeting adjourned.
