A well-attended meeting was held held in the Rangitata Bridge Hotel on Friday evening, to consider the steps to be taken in carrying out the annual race meeting. Mr D. McKenzie was voted to the chair, and read the advertisement calling the meeting. The Chairman said what they would first have to consider was whether they thought there was sufficient inducement to warrant them in holding a race meeting this year. The Honorary Secretary, Mr Adam Rae, stated that the receipts from last year’s meeting amounted to £6B 18s 6d, and the expenditure to £66 12s 61, leaving a credit balance of £2 6s, which was only a few shillings less than the balance from the previous year. It was then unanimously agrejd to hold the meeting as usual On the motion of Mr John Rae, seconded by Mr H. Oonlter, it was decided that the races should be held on Boxing Day. The election of officers then took place as follows: S'ewards: Messrs John Rae, D. McKay, J, Bull, E. Evans, A. Rae, D. Dcnoon, H. Coulter, and J, J. Daily, Judge: Mr 11. H. Pearpoint; Clerk of the Scales :Mr W. R. D. Lawson ; Starter: Mr T, W, Corbett ; Clerk of the Course : Mr S. Hae ; Handicapper ; Mr D. McKenzie; Hon. Secretary and Treasurer : Mr A. Rae. The Chairman said it had been proposed to apply to Mr Deonistoun for the use of one of his paddocks to hold the races in, as while they were held on the old course they could not make a charge for entrance, as the ground was not fenced. If a fenced paddock were obtained a useful sum would be obtained by the Chib from the gates. It was resolved on the motion of Mr A. Rae, seconded by Mr Coulter —“ That Mr Dennistoun be applied to for the use of one of bis padlocks to hold the race meeting it." The programme was the next thing considered, and last year’s was adopted, with the exception of the trotting race, which was struck out, the money to be added to the Maiden Plate and the Consolation Handicap. The stakes in each race were, however, left, as in the event of the Club obtaiuing the use of a paddock they would be in a position to increase the amount of the stakes. The Chairman and Secretary were empowered to fix the amounts, but in the event of the races being held, ou the old ground the stakes are to remain as last year. A letter was read from Mr J, J. Daily, licensee of the Rangitata Bridge Hotel, offering to give £5 5s toward the Club’s funds if the races took place on the old course, he to be allowed to place a refreshment booth on the ground. On it being explained to Mr Daily that the Club were trying to obtain * new course, be stated be would not give aa answer as to whether he would hold to his offer in that case, until he bad seen the paddoek. This being all the business, the meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the Ohsirtnan*
