CRICKET.
A match between Nine of the First Eleven and Sixteen of the Best of the Club took place at Temuka on Saturday, the Nine proving the victors, with a good many runs to spare. Mr Hayhurst winning the toss for the Rest of the Club, took the wickets. The first three players, Messrs Haylmrst, Fish and McOaskill, were the only ones to make any stand, the whole side being disposed of for 55 runs. We were glad to see Mr P. fiethune on the field, who played for the Sixteen, and did them good service in fielding and bowling, He has joined the Club, and will play for them against Timaru next Saturday. Messrs Brown and Gurr commenced batting for the Nine, and, both being in good form, runs came together quickly, till Mr Brown was bowled, after a well-played 11. Mr Bryars took hi* place, and, playing pretty cricket, put on runs at a rapid rote, till he lost his partner, Mr Gurr, who retired with a well-put-togrther 14. Mr Heap then went in, and stayed for some time, retiring with a steadily-played 11. Mr Pinckney joined his captain, but was unfortunately run out, without scoring, in attempting a short run, Mr Hargreaves then went in, and after playing a few overs, and scoring 2, time was called, Mr Bryars being still in with 59 lo his credit.
