TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Temuka Town Board was held last night. Present Messrs Gray (Chairman), Brown, Mason, Quinn, and Blyth. The minutes of the previous meeting were re a( j an d confirmed. •

A letter having been received from the Fire Brigade as regards the cleaning °f the wells, it was resolved—That the we lls be put in order, and the ladder erected, and that a committee, consisting of the Chairman, Messrs Mason and Quinn, confer with the Fire Brigade,” The following resolutions were passed in connection with the Overseer’s report: “ That the selection of furniture be left to Mr Blyth “ That the Clerk prepare plans and specifications for cleaning the water chanaels along the main road to the boundary, and call for tenders for a footpath from Cass street to Section street “ That the Overseer report bn Burks treet by next meeting.” Ihe Chairman said the credit balance was £B3l 12s 7d. In reply to Mr Mason, the Chairman said the report in the Timartt Herald about a fire bell waAali a mistake as no such thiiig had been made. ' Mr Brown asked what was going to be done about Commerce street. He was nearly flooded out of it. . The Chairman arid something would have to be done. There would be funds, he thought, to do it. , Mr Blyth thought it woald cost £4O. Mr Brown said.if they went in for a stone channel it would save a lot of expense. It would do as well,as kirbing. Mr Quinn : What height will, the footpath be ? Mr Mason felt that the place must be kerbed. Btone-channelling would cost as much. Mr Brown thought the people would think the Board had gone off their “chumps.” Mr Mason said a great deal of dissatisfaction had been expressed. , Mr Quinn said the stone channelling would cost more. , . The Chairman’said they .should go in for cast-iron crossing?. He thought they had funds enough to. do it. Mr Quinn moved— *• That tenders be called for the work in accordances with the plans before the Board.”/ Mr Mason seconded the motion. Mr Brown wanted to know the cost of cast-iron crossings. ;

The Chairman said they were nearly as cheap as wood. The motion was carried unanimously. Mr Blyth thought they ought to have £IOO to £l5O always in- hand. He moved a resolution to; the effect that a statement of assets and liabilities be laid before next meeting, which was carried. On the motion of Mr Blyth, seconded by Mr Quinn, it was resolved—" That the owners of any crossings, obstructing side-channels be given notice to remove them, or have them properly cleaned out.”

The meeting then adjourned for a fortnight.
