Membership of Westown Golf Club Maintained
Membership of the Westown Golf Club had been maintained particularly well, being 191, compared with 215 last year, it was reported at the annual meeting at New Plymouth, presided over by Mr. J. Lobb. The season was regarded by members as successful, and it was agreed that the club was holding its own. The financial position had also been well maintained, it was reported, receipts being £116 14s lOd less and the expenses £280 10s 7d less. There was a loss of £45 on the year's working, after writing off £76 18s depreciation on buildings and plant. Whether it would be possible to maintain these figures would be a matter for serious consideration by the incoming committee. Inter-club matches were seriously curtailed, it was stated. The ground stafl had been seriously curtailed. entailing more work and responsibility on Mr. Grafton Sole. The balance sheet showed receipts were £649 ls 4d and expenditure £694 ls 5d, The club's cash position was more than £40 better than at the previous annual meeting, it was stated, but the strictest economy would still have to be practised in the coming year. Officers elected were: President, Mr. J. Lobb; vice-president, Mr. R. G. Howell; honorary secretary, Mr. D. Le C. Morgan; honorary auditor, Mr. F. V. Morine; club captain, Mr. W. F. Roebuck; committee, Messrs. E. R. Hooker, G. Boswell, A. Smith, D. S. Sykes, D. McKearney. The secretary was voted an honorarium of 35 guineas, the honorary auditor £3 3s, and the green warden £5 5s. It was decided to continue club championships and trophy competitions, a motion that they be suspended during the war finding little support.
