OUR POETRY

I WISH IT WOULD RAIN. (Sent by Pauline Dodunski.) I wish it would rain, oh! I wish it would rain, But there isn't a cloud in the sky, And the dust is ablowing down Butter- 1 cup Lane And everywhere is perfectly dry. I wish it would rain, oh I do and I do, For I soon have to go out to tea, And I have an umbrella all shining and new, And I do want to use it, you see. THE SAINT WEARS A HALO. (Sent by Kathleen Nelson.) The saint wears a halo; The king wears a crown; The milkmaid a bonnet To match her white gown; The toadstool a hat And the foxglove a hood; A canopy covers The trees in the wood; The elf has a cap That fits close to his head; The witch stole a steeple (The story-book said); But when I go running I leave my head bare To feel the warm sun And the wind in my hair. THE FAIRY DANCE. (Sent by Lily Riddick.) Were you ever lucky enough by chance To get a glimpse of the fairy dance. The other night 'mid trees so tall, I watched a wonderful fairy ball. 'Twas held in the fairy ring so bright, And really 'twas a wondrous sight; The little fairies and elves so gay Danced all night till the foreak of day. RECKLESS REGGIE. (Sent by Flora Maclennan.) * Reckless Reggie rode to Rye, On a bike without a brake. Hit a lorry, murmured, "Sorry— Pardon me sir— my mistake!" : Lorry driver eyed him sternly, "Bust yer bike up. Serves you right! Want a lift? I goes to Burnly. - Takes me all the blinkin' night!" Reckless Reginald refused him. Weary, walking, wandered back; Mother violently abused him, Gave the boy a well-earned smack. Made him sell his broken bike— Now poor Reggie has to hike.
