tybalt wins cup event sprint won by TOSH gold pocket destroyed
Whangarei, Last Night. The Whangarei Racing Club's spring carnival opened to-day in brilliant weather before a large atlendance. The track was very fast after a long spell of dry weather. The totalisator handled £10,678 10s, cornpared wilh £9883 on the first day at the last spring meeting. An inquiry was held into the runnipg of the Whangarei Cup, as thfe result of which G. Glading, rider of Sergia, which finished second, was fined £5 for not riding his mount out. The aged chestnut gelding Gold Pocket, owned by Mr. N. B. Howie, Whangarei, had to be destroyed after falling near the post in the County Handicap. The horse faltered and crossed its forelegs, breaking both. Results are:— HIKURANGI HANDICAP. Of £100.
