CLERK RETIRING
st. john's presbyterian church. FAREWELL BY CONGREGATION. Retirement of Mr. L. A. Bone, clerk »o the kirk sessior. of St. John's Presbyterian Church Hawera, was announccd at the annual meeting of members on Wednesday night. Mr. . Bone, who had acted in that office for 23 years. will be succeeded by Mr. A. Coleman. "Looking back over- the terrris of office of the session . clerks of St. John's, one is struck by the wonderful .attention given to the duties of . the office," said Mr. J. S. Murray "Ministers have come and gone, but oui session clerks go on the even tenor of their way, attending faithfully to all the details which make up the organised spiritual life of the church." Ordained and inducted in 1912 and etected to office in 1914, Mr. Bone entered on his duties at the beginning of a period in which the. church was called upon to spend itself to the uttermost to encourage those who were called upon in the service of their King and country and to comfort those bearing the burden at home. Since his taking office the number on the roll had nearly doubled itself, doubling the duties of the session clerk. ln his relationship with the minisiers and witb tho$e with whom he served in stewardship Mr. Bone had "spoilt them aR" by doing too much for them. Many a newcomer to the church had felt his kindly interest and had been grateful for his sympathy and assistance. Regret at Mr. Bone's retirement was expressed also by Mr. C. G. Trotter, on behalf of the board of managers and the Moderator, the Rev. A. G. Irvine. Mr. Bone and Mr. Coleman also spoke.
