GENERAL AND PERSONAL NEWS. A social afternoon was held at the home of Mrs. C. Startup, Matapu, the funds being for the community chest. Euchre prize winners were Mrs. C. Carlson and Miss E. Laird. A euchre party was held by the Hunter Road Cricket Club in the Hunter Road halL Prizes were won by Mr. D. Simpson and Mr. L. Swindlehurst and Mrs. N. Brisco and Mrs. D. Simpson. Travelling prizes were won by Mr. C. Brisco and Mrs. D. Simpson and consolation prizes by Miss E. Laird and Mr. D. J. Simpson. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss W. Startup and Mrs. D. J. Simpson. Music for dancing was played by Miss W. Startup, Messrs. N. Brisco and F. Prestidge. Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Crowe, Lepperton, and Mr. R. Kilpatrick, Palmerston North, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. Startup. Mrs. 1. Reid, Waihou, has been the gaest of her sister, Mrs. S. A. Cleaver. Mrs. I. Samuel, Hawkes Bay, was the guest of Mrs. W. R. Carter. Mr. and Mrs. J. Carter, Waipawa, were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Startup for the week-end. Messrs. R. and H. Thomas have returned home aiter spending a holiday in the Waikato district. Mr. W. A. Guy has returned home after spending the week-end at New Plymouth.
